How to use up dry sponge cake

What should you do with dry leftover sponge cake? Well, there are lots of ways of making good use of it: make a syrup and drizzle it on top; fill it with jam or compote; or turn it into a completely different dessert by crumbling it up as the base for a trifle, which you can finish off by adding fresh fruit and custard, yogurt or cream.
