Our History
It seems like yesterday, but 125 years have passed since the Pont Creus family started up a small business dedicated to the buying and selling of olives and almonds in the area of Tàrrega (Lleida, Spain). They must be the olive oil, the nuts and the sun of the Mediterranean what keep us as passionate and committed today as we were in 1896.
1986
When it all began
It’s the year when Antonio Pont and Dolores Creus settled in Tàrrega (Spain) to sell olives and almonds, where crops perfectly suited to the abundant sunshine and rich soil of the region.
1914
First industrialization
An oil mill with wooden beam press is installed in Tàrrega. Shortly after, it is modernized with a hydraulic press.
1920
The industrialization is consolidated
With the incorporation of an almond peeler
1939
Bulk sale
The first oil extraction machine is installed in Tàrrega. In the same year an oil refinery is built and the oil bulk sale initiates its development.
1957
Export begins
The export of olive oil, almonds and hazelnuts in bulk begins in Reus.
1964
Building of the first packaged oils factory.
Borges brand appears
1967
Nuts sale spreads in Spain
The sale in the Spanish market of the full range of nuts produced and packed under the brand name Borges begins. In the same period, the company initiates the import of nuts produced outside Spain.
1978
First advertising campaign
The first Borges advertising campaign is launched in Barcelona. The company establishes the first pistachio and walnut farming business.
1980
Leadership position in Spain
Borges brand consolidation is achieved at national level, reaching a leading position in the oil market in Catalonia and in the nuts and dried fruits market in Spain. First regular advertising campaigns.
2021
From the Mediterranean, to the whole world
That exciting initiative has become a global brand present in more than 100 countries throughout the five continents. Our goal nowadays is to promote the knowledge around world of the benefits of living like the Family Pont Creus did more than 100 years ago, combining the best Mediterranean foods with the pleasure of good company.
We are on a path. Where we are now is not the end but only the beginning. There is so much yet to be done. But come what may, it will be achieved with our family’s values at heart to guide us, with honesty, optimism and determination. Together we can build something bigger and better.
