Aha! The same old dilemma, eh? It’s not as if you haven’t been told a thousand and one times before, but you can never remember whether it’s better to do sport before or after eating. Maybe because, most of the time, the answer is “it depends”. It depends on how strenuous the sport in question is likely to be, etc. You’ll be fine doing gentle exercise on an empty stomach, although experts increasingly recommend eating something to give you some energy.
Why? Well, if not, your body will get the energy it needs from wherever else it can. If theory, this means burning fat (great, no?), but on the flipside you’ll feel tired and might even lose muscle mass.
So, in answer to the question “To eat or not to eat”, it’s best to eat something light before doing sport. How about a handful of nuts, filling and packed with nutrients?
