What to do if it’s too spicy

5 May 2015

So, you wanted to spice a recipe up a bit and now you’re breathing fire…  It’s all too easy if you’re not used to using chili, but fear not: help is at hand. An eye-watering casserole can be fixed by adding some water, some grated apple, a potato or a teaspoonful of sugar.

If that doesn’t work, some dairy products contain a protein called casein, which can counteract the effects of chili—try adding some yogurt or a spoonful of cream (providing it goes with the casserole).

Still fiery hot? Serve on a plate of white rice, bread and a glass of milk to help calm the flames.
