Five breakfasts your kids will love

14 June 2016

Children need a good start to the school day if they’re going to get through all their lessons. But it’s not always easy to conjure up a nutritious, balanced, healthy and (for good measure!) fun breakfast. Here are a few ideas to help you rise to the challenge:

Yogurt with cereal, walnuts, strawberries and banana

A well-rounded recipe that you can adapt for your own children by including their favourite fruit and cereals. We suggest putting some banana, strawberries, peeled walnuts and rolled oats on a yogurt base. You could also add some chocolate shavings as a topping.

Crêpe with homemade cocoa spread + orange and mango juice

Pancakes are always a hit with kids, so why not give them a healthy twist and turn them into a nutritious breakfast? You can fill them with turkey and cream cheese, homemade jam or homemade cocoa spread (you can learn how to make it in this post). You can wash it down with a fresh fruit juice made by blending orange and mango.

Banana and cocoa shake + homemade yogurt, nuts and dried fruit sponge cake

A fresh take on a traditional yogurt sponge cake by adding walnuts, raisins, etc. Make sure you read this tip on how to stop your nuts sinking. Serve with a nutritional banana shake made with ripe bananas, milk and cocoa powder. Blend and you’re good to go!

Toast with nuts + pineapple and apple juice

You can make this at home with raisins, dried apricot, walnuts or pistachios, for example. Drizzle some olive oil on the toast and serve with ham, cheese, turkey, cured ham… Wash it down with a refreshing pineapple and apple juice.

Pancakes with baked apple + yogurt and strawberry smoothie

Let your imagination run wild when working with fruit: smoothies, juices, jams and—why not?—baked fruit. Cut an apple into slices and bake for 5 minutes at 180 ºC. Serve with pancakes and drizzle some honey on top—irresistible! It goes perfectly with homemade natural yogurt and fresh strawberry smoothie.
