There are several things to bear in mind when choosing a pumpkin for Halloween, before getting creative and turning it into a real terror. Help!
Shape
Round, regular and impressive. Avoid long ones or unevenly shaped ones.
Touch
Give it a good feel: it should be hard and even. If you find any soft spots, it’s goodbye, pumpkin. The same goes for any cuts or marks.
Stability
Don’t even think of leaving without making sure it balances perfectly on any surface. You don’t want any nasty surprises later!
Stalk
It’s best to go for a pumpkin without a stalk. If it does have one, don’t pick it up by the stalk as you may damage it.
Colour
The pumpkin should have a uniform fiery colour, without any green or white marks.
Conservation
To make sure it keeps for as long as possible, store it in a dry, fresh place once you get home.
